Fortezza de' Cortesi, is a charming medieval country-side villa sorrounded by the spectacular famous tuscan scenery of cypresses, old oaks, olives, woods.It is the ideal setting for a special luxury, exclusive and relaxing holiday in Tuscany, ideal point of departure for day trips to the cities of all central Italy and the perfect base to return after excursions into the countryside with its historic, artistic and gastronomic treasures. Just 5 km away the centre of the famous town of S.Gimignano ( included in the UNESCO world cultural and natural heritage because it is the sole testimony of medieval turreted town on the world ), situated on a hilltop that allows a 360° panoramic view including the towers, likely of etruscan origin, it certainly dates back to at least the Xth century and it is one of the most important historical and architectural sites in the area and has been carefully restored to preserve the beauty and authenticity of the original building. Going uphill from the parking the ancient tower come into view. All around multicolor rosemary and lavander hedges , roses, jasmines, brooms, geraniums. Weekly rentable from saturday to saturday ( but on request the Fortezza offer to its guests the opportunity to stay in its exclusive rooms with the B&B formula ), the house, of more than 500 mqs., can host up to 12 people ( a limited number of guests so everyone is assured of special attention to their needs ). It has a refined and exclusive atmosphere that still mantains the warmth of family-style management.
The confortable delicious 6 bedrooms, on 3 floors, look upon the enchanting view of the surrounding “colline toscane” (Tuscan hills). All provided with private ensuite bathrooms with a wall attached hairdryer, air conditioning/ heating , mosquito-nets and safes and, as the whole house, they are carefully furnished with antiques and luxury fabrics. On the upper level you will find three double rooms named “Fina”, “Smeralda”, “Preziosa”. “Belviso”, the fourth room, has two single beds, that can be joined. “Cortesiana”, of 65mq. exclusively for two people, with its own sitting room with an ancient fireplace, enjoys the privacy of the entire second floor of the tower. “Sigerio” room, which also offers two single beds that can be joined, is located on the lower level. Its convenient location makes it suitable for people with special needs. You can feel the same cozy athmosphere in all the common areas: the sitting room where you can chat or watch satellite tv, the small study with telephone and internet access, where is assured the privacy to read or work peacefully , the spacious living/dining room with the medieval fireplace where, during autumn or winter time, you can spend relaxing, nice evenings enjoying a superb glass of red Chianti wine. You can also enjoy the comfort of the large old, but very equipped, kitchen.and of another groundfloor common bathroom ( 7 bathrooms in total ).
The residence is sorrounded by twelve private hectars and looks out on a nice terraced garden with gazebo supplied with a table and chairs, so that you could stay and admire the panorama including the famous towers disturbed only by the movement of butterflies and the chirping of cicadas and crickets or by the pheasants' warbling. A few meters away, near the olive grove, sorrounded by a hedge of flowering lavender, you can find the large inground 6x12 swimming pool equipped with patio furniture to sunbathe, while the quiet pergola offers abundant shade and it is a perfect haven for rest away from the summer heat and to contemplate the tuscan landscape while enjoing the breath-taking view of the venerable San Gimignano's towers cutting a timeless outline against the limpid blue sky. Ideal for birdwatching and trekking , the house also has available in the vicinity tennis, golf, fishing, horseback riding and extensive walking trails. The property produce the precious saffron "purissimo zafferano di San Gimignano" (the saffron of this area is considered the best of the world ), olive oil, aromatic herbs, cereals.
The villa provides many amenities and facilities as dayly Maid service of bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms and Pool/Garden service. To facilitate and enrich the stay of its guests, Fortezza de' Cortesi has also arranged a lot of additional services on request and owners, who live next door( but guests' privacy is totally assured by the disposition of the two houses) personally offer to their guests a welcome aperitif with San Gimignano typical vernaccia wine and snacks of salami and tuscan cheese; at the arrival clients also find in the kitchen a first welcome courtesy basket and all the bathrooms equipped with a courtesy set.
Owners also invite you to taste the genuine flavours of the typical tuscany cuisine in their restaurant "Dulcis in Fundo" in the centre of the town, in front of a breathteaking panorama. Here, in a suggestive historical and medieval milieu, they propose very high quality, typical, seasonal, selected and traditional food and wines (included the Vernaccia wine ). Obviously at the restaurant special price conditions are reserved for Fortezza de' Cortesi's clients. From Fortezza de' Cortesi you may easily reach Florence (39 km ), Siena ( 28 km ), Certaldo ( 16 km ), Monteriggioni ( 20 km ), Volterra ( 29 km ), Pisa ( 80 km ), Lucca, Montalcino, Pienza the sea-side coast and many other important places (the site was famous in the past for its strategic position).
